Smiggals' Book Reviews
Exploring Worlds Created by Others

Ethos
Having read numerous literature, in relation to academia, my desire to read during my studies was never going to happen. However, I am now in a position to get back to one of my favourite past times...reading. So, I thought I'd share some of my feelings, thoughts and opinions on the books I have read from this point on.
During and post-completion of my research degree the last thing I wanted to do was stick my head into a book. I used to love reading fiction. It was something I could do on my own, wouldn't interrupt other people and most importantly, lose myself in a world created by others. Additionally, reading, like no other medium, allows you to envisage a world in a form unique to you, which I really like. My background, work, research and love revolves around film, TV and music. As I progressed with my studies the way I read books changed. Before I was engrossed in the story but as time progressed I started to see the literature in film/TV form and judge a story on its merits and whether it would make a good screenplay.

So, presently, I am just starting to read more regularly again. All the reviews that I post will be from this point on (July 2019).

I may review books I've previously read, as I believe that when we read, watch, listen it might not be quite the right time to indulge in that medium at that time. This has happened to me. I'd watch a film, then re-watch it 10 years later only for it to affect me more, due to my age, experiences and environment.

I have identified books I want to read but I'm not making any definitive decisions...I'll take it one day at a time.
